The Borsuchyna Meadow, a scenic location at an altitude of 1138 m a.s.l.., was named after the mountain of the same name at the foot of which it is located. The title of this meadow originates from badger holes that are located in the surrounding area.
The trail to Borsuchyna Meadow starts on the outskirts of Vorokhta, in the picturesque Nyzhniy Bohonchyk tract, not far from a premise of the Vorokhta Conservation and Research Division. The trail leads you through a green forest, where the air is saturated with freshness of the river flowing nearby. The light sound of water accompanies you as the trail gently winds along its banks. The feeling of unity with nature creates a special atmosphere of peace and harmony.
The forests consist of pure beech, fir-beech and spruce-beech. Shrubs such as mezeron (Daphne mezereum), black-berried honeysuckle (Lonicera nigra), elderberry (Sambucus nigra) and red elderberry (Sambucus racemosa), common hazel (Corylus avellana), spirea (Spiraea media), gray alder (Alnus incana), as well as the herbs such as forest starflower (Stellaria holostea), sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum), wood-sedge (Carex sylvatica), true lover’s knot (Paris quadrifolia), mouse-ear hawkweed (Hieracium pilosella), Dentaria glandulosa, wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella), etc can be found in this area.
In about a kilometer, there is a wooden bridge. Beyond the bridge, the forest deepens and you enter the thickets, where small meadows open up.
Along the trail you can see places covered with berries such as blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. However, you should be careful: do not taste unfamiliar fruits, because berries can be poisonous!
The forest becomes thinner gradually and a wide meadow opens in front of you.
Small forest meadows along the trail and the Borsuchyna meadow were formed as a result of deforestation. Grass-herb communities predominate here. Common bent (Agrostis capillaris), wolf’s bane (Arnica montana), oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), red clover (Trifolium pratense), and Centaurea grow here. Such mountain meadows are also used as pastures. Species from the Red Book of Ukraine give special value to the meadow areas. Traunsteinera globosa, Gymnadenia conopsea, Platanthera bifolia, Dactylorhiza maculata, Dactylorhiza majalis, and Crocus heuffelianus can be found among cereals.
Here, among tall grasses and flowers, there are traditional huts of mountain farming. Cows and sheep graze nearby, and these huts provide the local landscape with a special charm and coziness. A breathtaking view of the majestic Zaprutski Horgany and Pokutsko-Bukovyna Carpathians opens here. Mountains seem even more majestic in this corner of the Carpathians.
