Hutyn Tomnatyk also attracts visitors by its colorful and mysterious atmosphere of the Carpathian highland. Lake Brebeneskul is situated on the northern-eastern slopes of the mountain. The mountain’s relief was significantly influenced by a glacier. Hutyn Tomnatyk is a very interesting nature-protection site, since subalpine and alpine vegetation with a huge number of rare and relict species grow here. The name of the mountain comes from ancient Chinese and means «grey summit». According to another version, the name is similar to the Indo-Iranian word «hud» which means «bull».
