Khomiak

An interesting name and unique shapes of Mount Khomiak have attracted tourists for a long time. The remains of an old Austrian serpentine road witness of such a fact. According to some versions, the Austrian Emperor hunted in the surrounding forests. In the 1930s, climbing Khomiak was popular with Polish and Ukrainian students. Like other peaks of the Horhany range, Khomiak has steep slopes covered with stony placers.

The name of the mountain (in English ‒ «hamster») is associated with the Alpine marmot which used to live in this area. Even the shape of the mountain reminds of this animal.

Climbing Khomiak will bring plenty of positive emotions from observing landscapes of the Horhany and Chornohora ranges. On the very top of the mountain the Statue of God Mary is installed.
