Khomiak Mountain is located in the Horhany ridge, the part of the Carpathians where the mountain peaks have steep slopes covered with stony placers called Horhany. The local people say that the name of Khomiak Mountain, which means “hamster” in English, is associated with the alpine marmot (hamster) which used to live in this area. The shape of the mountain also reminds us of this animal. Hiking to the top will allow you to enjoy the beauty and magnitude of the Carpathians, where the natural genuineness has been kept. The trail starts in a distance about 700m close to the motorway Ivano-Frankivsk – Rakhiv in direction of Polianytsia village. The forest path goes to the north along the stream and leads to the mountains serpentine.
